DYSLOCOSAURUS [piclink.gif]

(Bad place lizard) [saurbkg.bmp]
FAMILY: Diplodocidae.
ERA: Late Cretaceous ( Campanian - Maastrichtian 83.5 - 65 Ma ).
SIZE: Length 17 -18 m (55 - 58 ft). Weight 5 tonnes.
LOCATION: North America.
FOSSILS: Parts of leg, most feet and ankle bones.
COMMENTS: The name of this sauropod derives from being found in a museum collection without detailed information of the original location. It had at least 4 and possibly 5 claws on the foot, in contrast to other diplodocids that had only 2. Its body proportions were similar to Diplodocus but much smaller. If the Lance Formation location is correct, this is the latest sauropod found anywhere. If the location is the Morrison Formation instead, then the time period becomes a more reasonable Late Jurassic .
SPECIES LIST:
D. polyonychius Macintosh, Coombs and Russell, 1992 (type) .
