Rhamphorhynchus
Era: Late
Jurassic
.
Location: Europe (Germany) and Africa (Tanzania).
Size: 1m (3 ft) span.
This pterosaur is well known because of the fine fossils found together with Archaeopteryx.
The wing membrane structure has even been preserved and shows the thin fibres that
supported the wing. It probably fished from the air, diving down and snapping up
fish with its outward pointing sharp, barbed teeth.
