This carnivorous dinosaur of the Late Jurassic period may have been as big as a Tyrannosaurus rex. Because its remains are fragmentary, some paleontologists refer to it as Allosaurus maximus while others have named it Saurophaganax maximus.

The Dinosaur Encyclopaedia provides information on all known dinosaurs and is updated every 12 months. For individual dinosaurs the information is much more detailed than can be found on any web site, and the number of dinosaurs covered is more than in any other software package. The information is compiled from various scientific sources including original journal articles, and hundreds of journal references are included for users to research further their own interests. Price for a new user is Aust$40 (~US$30), and updates cost Aust$10. For more information contact Graeme Worth at gmbra@it.net.au
NOTE:: Version 4.0 is available online!!! Graeme has graciously allowed me to put the html code of Version 4.0 online for your perusal and use. Version 4.0 contains detailed information on all fully characterized dinosaurs described up until July, 1999.
Please note that Version 7.0 is in a completely different format (PDF,
so will work on any computer such as Macs, Unix etc that have a PDF viewer
such as Reader installed), and contain a vastly expanded amount of information,
different style of location map and glossary, and many full colour illustrations.
It also contains many new dinosaurs discovered since V4
was released. The Dinosaur Encyclopaedia Version 7.0 contains detailed information
on all fully characterized dinosaurs and Mesozoic birds described up until
July, 2003. In total there are entries for 990 different genera containing
more than 2100 species, with 253 dinosaur illustrations (including 82 colour),
more than 2600 references and an essay section. Information includes the
time period in which the animal lived, its family, its size, the location
of fossil finds, the number of species, and any special comments. For the
first time, individual specimens are listed (more than 20,000) with catalogue
number, description of remains, location and a map reference. Separate sections
contain descriptions of more than 40 important dinosaur locations from around
the world; expanded descriptions of major dinosaur and bird groups or families;
footprint taxa (219 genera); egg taxa (41 genera); a list of all genus names
appearing in the encyclopaedia; a subject index; and a section with lists
of dinosaurs and birds by size, time period and country. A 450 term glossary
and 14 location maps with more than 550 marked sites complete the encyclopaedia.
The total package size is
almost 2500 pages.
