Meet LEONARDO -The Mummy Dinosaur - A New Video

- In the summer of 2001, Nate
Murphy and a team of volunteers from the Judith River
Dinosaur Institute unearthed a 77 million year old brachylophosaurus which
had skin and muscle tissue covering 90 percent of it’s body. The mummified
remains of its last meals were still in its stomach and digestive tract! The
team named the dinosaur, Leonardo. He has been recognized by the Guiness World
Book of Records as the “World’s Best Preserved Dinosaur”,
the mummy dinosaur.
- This program takes you to the first day on the dig site where a team of
volunteers spent more than eight months excavating Leonardo from a coulee
in remote northeast Montana. You will see the entire scientific process of
the excavation and documentation of this remarkable specimen. The highlight
of the program is the unveiling ceremony of the life size Leonardo model on
display in Malta, Montana. This is the first dinosaur model based mostly on
science rather than on artistic interpretation and speculation. The Leonardo
mummy enabled the artisans at CM Studios to create the world’s most
accurate dinosaur model ever made. Nate
discusses the ways in which Leonardo has changed what is known about dinosaurs
from their scales to their toenails! There is also speculation regarding the
knowledge hidden inside Leonardo. Were dinosaurs warm or cold blooded? Leonardo
is expected to answer that question, ending a debate which has endured for
hundreds of years. “He has so much to teach us,” says Nate
Murphy.
